Why do some situations, words, behaviours or some people tick you off more than others? And how does your reaction to this affect the situation? Often your reaction makes things worse, especially for yourself and your peace of mind, but it also affects your relationships with others. Even if you are not expressing your frustration, disappointment, hurt, annoyance, it will still affect you.
All of us have different experiences and even if our experiences were similar, we internalized the lessons of the experience differently. Because of that we have different triggers.
That’s why in coaching we stay away from generalized ‘diagnoses’ and solutions. You are unique and how you experience the world is unique and what causes your trigger is based on your experience, your lessons, your values. When your understanding of this improves, you can also learn better ways to deal with this so that triggers don’t ‘hijack’ you and you are not overwhelmed by them. It can also help in developing more understanding and compassion for others and as such improve your relationships with the people around you.
